Best Practices

Writing Style

Clear and concise:

Good: "The next section asks about your experience with our mobile app."

Bad: "We are now going to transition to a new section of this survey that will be focused on gathering your feedback and opinions regarding your personal experience using our mobile application..."

Action-oriented:

Good: "Select all products you've purchased in the last 6 months."

Bad: "The following question will ask you to indicate which products you may have purchased."

Length

Keep it brief:

  • 1-3 sentences for instructions
  • Short paragraphs for explanations
  • Bulleted lists for multiple points

When longer text is needed:

  • Break into digestible chunks
  • Use headings
  • Include white space
  • Consider separate page

Placement

Before questions:

  • Provide context
  • Set expectations
  • Give instructions

Between sections:

  • Transition topics
  • Acknowledge progress
  • Prepare for new content

Important information:

  • Don’t bury critical info
  • Place prominently
  • Format for visibility
